SENSE OF JAPAN

MISSION

Izanami embodies the goddess Izanami-no-Mikoto, who gave birth to Japan, as the symbol of our brand. Inspired by the way our ancestors lived, we cherish a deep appreciation for the beauty of our planet and the brilliance of life, embracing the true luxury of living in harmony with nature.

Our vision is a world where people coexist with nature, savoring the joy of life in bonds filled with love. We strive to preserve Japan’s aesthetic and wisdom as a universal heritage for future generations, becoming a beacon of light for all hearts navigating through the chaos of the modern world.

SKILLS

Japan, a nation of craftsmanship, is renowned for its unparalleled precision and high-quality techniques. Rooted in the belief that gods reside in all things, the Japanese have long found deep “ikigai” in the art of making things. At Izanami, we carefully select only the finest materials and techniques.

With meticulous attention to every detail, from the tools and workspace to the artisan’s own state of mind, highly skilled Japanese craftsmen infuse their ikigai into each creation. These works are the crystallization of Japan’s aesthetic values, representing the ultimate expression of art born from the soul.

When you stand before authentic Japanese traditional craftsmanship, you transcend national and cultural boundaries, experiencing an unparalleled connection to the vast beauty of nature and the subtle, irreplaceable qualities that only human hands can create.

In this era, where technology advances and our relationship with nature and our way of life as humans are being enriched and transformed, Izanami offers one-of-a-kind masterpieces crafted by Japan’s finest artisans. We believe the energy of these works will imbue spaces with a special significance, leaving those who experience them with unforgettable emotions.

CEREMONY

We aspire to offer a transformative experience that allows people from all cultures and nations to directly feel the essence of Japan’s spirit at its core.

To achieve this, it is not enough to simply showcase Japan’s traditional craftsmanship. We must also invite others to experience the sacred “matsurigoto” (rituals) that have been performed by the Japanese for centuries to connect with the great deities of nature.

We are honored to present a mystical ceremony led by Saori Kanda, a renowned “Dancing Painter” , who embodies the spirit of Japan through her performances. This ceremony will be held at locations where Izanami has shared traditional craftsmanship, and it will offer participants an opportunity to experience a ritual that captures the essence of Japan’s spirituality.

Saori Kanda is celebrated for her powerful physical expression, which fuses dance, music, costumes, lighting, and video art. For nearly 20 years, she has dedicated her performances to shrines across Japan, combining dance and painting in sacred offerings.

STORY

Throughout history, humanity has continually sought a richer and more fulfilling life. As a result, technology has advanced, the world has become astonishingly convenient, and we can now access countless goods and information in an instant.Yet, in this relentless pursuit of material wealth, have we not perhaps lost sight of the richness of the heart and the true essence of human happiness?

Now is the time for us to reclaim genuine abundance and nurture a new “culture.” We stand on the eve of opening the door to an era of beautiful spirit that transcends borders and religions, uniting us all.

Japan is home to a wealth of unique culture, language, and values that cannot be found anywhere else in the world. This island nation, with 70% of its land covered by forests and surrounded by the ocean, has cultivated its own distinct culture over centuries, largely untouched by external invasion.

The way of life embraced by the Japanese — living with deep gratitude and reverence for nature as part of it — holds the essence of the richness that today’s world seeks. This way of being offers the potential to blend harmoniously with the rich traditions and cultures of other nations. It is not a doctrine to be imposed, but rather a path that illuminates and guides us forward.

Despite the immense care and precision involved in traditional Japanese craftsmanship, these industries are quietly and steadily declining due to a lack of successors and economic difficulties. As individuals born and raised in Japan, we see it as our role to blend the time-honored techniques and deep spirituality of these artisans with modern design and lifestyles. Our goal is to restore the status of traditional craftsmen, elevating their profession to one of pride, and bringing traditional industries to new heights.

We also aim to establish ourselves as a globally renowned high-end brand that embodies the spirit of Japan, offering products, spaces, and experiences that allow people worldwide to reconnect with their spiritual home.

FOUNDER

One of Japan’s three great Shinto shrines, built 2,700 years ago, stands near the rural area where I was born and raised. Each day began with me gazing up at the shrine’s sacred trees, offering my prayers to the sun, and ended with the sight of the moon quietly illuminating the sea. Like the Japanese of old, I learned everything important in life from nature.

Through the traditional craftsmanship and spirit of harmony that define Japan, I find happiness in our daily work—protecting Japan’s precious artisans and culture, while creating new works that have yet to exist in this world, guided purely by the heart. By carrying forward the invaluable baton passed down by our ancestors, I hope to connect people across the globe and leave behind a culture of beautiful hearts, where everyone can live richly and authentically.
